Art in Action
Program 5: American Art
Learn about how the work of American artists throughout history portrays aspects of national and cultural life. Students learn how to draw proportional figures by studying colonial painting techniques. After comparing landscapes, students develop their own interpretation of a westward expansion scene. Students complete portraits in the style of John Singleton Copley and Gilbert Stuart and learn to show texture and detail in paint like Winslow Homer and John James Audubon.
